Grant Review Opportunities
- HERCULES Mock Study Section: HERCULES Career Development Program is offering a simulated review panel designed to replicate an NIH grant review process, providing participants a glimpse into the mechanisms that underpin NIH funding decisions. The sessions will be led by senior HERCULES researchers with experience serving on NIH study sections and will mirror the evaluation process used in actual NIH panels. Participants will have the opportunity to submit their grant proposals, followed by constructive feedback and critical written evaluation from their peers. Through active engagement in this simulated review environment, prospective applicants will gain a deeper understanding of the expectations, challenges, and best practices associated with crafting competitive NIH grant proposals. Participants will also have the opportunity to refine their grant writing skills and enhance their ability to effectively communicate the significance, innovation, and approach of their research projects. (Scheduling: 1 month prior to submission deadline; limit 1 review/session).
- HERCULES Aims Review Sessions: Aims reviews sessions will be open to all HERCULES members to provide guidance on the development of specific aims and a research plan. HERCULES members looking for feedback and editing to strengthen their submission, will submit a draft Specific Aims/Research Plan document to the Center’s Professional Development team prior to the session date. During a 30-minute session, participants will briefly present their Aims and Research Plan to a small group of HERCULES members for edits, feedback, and ideas for strengthening the draft. (Scheduling: 4-5 months prior to submission deadline; limit: 2 reviews/session).
- HERCULES Expedited Review Process: An expedited process with a 3-week turn-around focusing on grantsmanship. Researchers will provide either their specific aims or drafted scientific portion to be reviewed for grantsmanship by established senior HERCULES researchers.
