Roadshow Grantee: Fulton County “Historic Hunter Hills Neighborhood Association”
This community group is participating in HERCULES Roadshow and Community Grant Program.
Phase 1: Exposome Roadshow Workshop
The Historic Hunter Hills neighborhood is west of downtown Atlanta, encompassed in the 30314 zip code.
Residents of the Historic Hunter Hills community, brought together by the Historic Hunter Hills Neighborhood Association, have numerous concerns about their community, including flooding from nearby Proctor Creek, abandoned properties and addressing the impacts of blight. They are also driven to build up community engagement and increase their community’s environmental resilience to improve the overall quality of life within their neighborhood. They applied to the Roadshow Program in order to combat these issues and improve safety and well-being for all residents of the Historic Hunter Hills neighborhood.
This group met twice with Emory HERCULES in October 2024 to share their environmental health concerns, learn about the exposome, and identify an environmental health priority. As a result, the Hunter Hills advocates selected blight as their health priority, and plan to address safety concerns while improving environmental health by fostering community pride, revitalization, and overall vibrancy, ultimately enhancing residents’ quality of life.
Phase 2: Planning Grant
Residents who came together in Phase 1 were awarded $1000 in January 2025 to develop an Action Plan to address the community needs identified during the Roadshow:
- Removing street litter
- Improving property code enforcement
- Enhancing existing green spaces
They will develop an action plan that will include monthly community beautification efforts, attending City Council meetings to advocate for community needs, and and educating residents about capacity-building workshops on topics such as grant writing, property maintenance and community advocacy.
